Good Suggestion

I think this is the finest point so far presented in the history for resolving the issue. Let's think about it more positively people.

Discuss it with open mind and determination to bring to an end the dispute. Not with bitter memories of past.

Comments or points are welcome.

'Indians are unruly fliers'- The Times of India

'Indians are unruly fliers'- The Times of India

I totally agree with the views persented in this article. In fact the article has been mildly put together.

Let's face it my fellow Indians, are we truly a peaceful community? We indeed love to make noise in all aspects of our life. Our festivals are so full of loudspeakers and extravagance. All the pomp and glory is not at all attractive. In fact and indeed it is vulgar.

Forget internation flights, I experience the arrogant behaviour of 'educated' people within India. This comes from the deep rooted poverty and the inferiority complex that we as nation suffer. Having a mobile phone and travelling with it on an airline and showing it off to the rest the world is our way of feeding our own ego. In my view such people are indeed 'poor'.

I am not being educated middle class snob who sits in an airconditioned office and blames the rest of the country as dirty. I am the one who salutes the common man in India. The spirit of Indians to stay together even through times of crisis and I am proud to be one.

I have flown on several international sectors and trust me, if I were the cabin crew, I would definately report unruly behaviour of Indian passengers. If you don't believe in the news articles, do go to Bangkok on your next holidays. You will enjoy Thailand and the shopping in Bangkok but you will hate the flight to and from Bangkok. The flight crew will be great but not your fellow passengers. They will make the flight look worst then our Indian railways 2nd class journey.

This the present case of North West airlines, I don't see any racial profiling solely. If this 12 passengers had observed the instructions, I don't think they would have gone through such problem. Think about it. It's not all about racism. Don't cry foul here. I will be amongst the first to fight against racial behaviour but on merits and not just because they are Indians.

Let us first behave and then we can show the world what we mean. Stop insulting your own self and and rest of us collectively. Indians have such a bad reputation that even the 'bars' in Bangkok are reluctant to allow Indian patronage. Think about it.

Muslims aim to weed out black sheep- The Times of India

Muslims aim to weed out black sheep- The Times of India

A perfect example of true Muslim spirit. Islam as I had known was never violent nor hateful.

Fools are those who put religion above everything. After all what is the religion that spreads hatred and asks to kill in name of GOD.

Hats off to Maualanas and Mailvi's of Mumbai who have taken such an initiative. Wish some ploticians and some bigger figures of religion also wake and support such brillaint idea. After all, together we live and together we shall die.

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Mumbai probe identifies explosive

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Mumbai probe identifies explosive

"Police have questioned hundreds of people, mostly Muslims."

I am disgusted at such irrelevant and BIASED reporting from BBC. Since there was not a single Briton or any other WHITE skin killed, it becomes non-issue?

Excuse me for my ignorance but there were fewer people died in London bombing and BRIT's killed, apparently and innocent South American? Still BBC of all reports THIS?

DID YOU NOT arrest mostly people of Muslim Community?

If you are going to give me the crap that you are reporting from your 'independent Correspondents' I did rather suggest that you need to change the conditions and qualifiers that determine a 'Trustworthy' correspondent.

WAKE UP. The SUN has already SET DOWN on British Empire. US of A is no more your friend. STOP licking their hinde site will ya?

BBC NEWS | Americas | Police patrolling Sao Paulo buses

BBC NEWS | Americas | Police patrolling Sao Paulo buses

Editors and Publishers of Reader's Digest must have really lost it when they surveyed 35 Cities in the world to find the one that is least courteous.

Sao Paulo? Well I will be delighted to know that when I am there, my vehicle will be stopped, POLITELY, and I will be asked to leave my vehicle, POLITELY, and they torche my vehicle, POLITELY and they say 'Thank You for your co-operation' before the run off.

Mumbai is feninitely not coureous because the person who wants to help you does ask your permission saying, 'May I help you?' and the person caught in the ruble of a junk that was left by a bomb explosion, does not say 'PLEASE would like to help me as I have just lost a leg and I am severly bleeding'

What is the courtsey business all about? Do the mugger in New York city say 'Thank You' when they rob you?

Do the sales person behind the counter, in city of Zurich, go the full nine yard (literally, if you were visiting some Saree shop in Mumbai) to show you the mechandise, not caring if it converts to sale or not.

In fact it is indeed very rude to compare cities and it's resident's on such cultural grounds. It is indeed out right racism.

I still don't understand how can Reader's Digest can blunder in such a fashion and worst is, have not even issued a public statement / press release apoligising and withdrawing such ridiculouse, racist, highly biased and totally unscientific and unnecessary survey.

God give them the strength to accept the mistake and take responsibility.

Good Manners: World of Courtesy: Ranking of 35 Cities

Good Manners: World of Courtesy: Ranking of 35 Cities

My answer to Reader's Digest and their publishers/editors/writers and all those who make money out of it.

---

Dear RD team of Editors,

Since I was a child, I was told and reminded to read your publication and I sincerely did.

I have no regrets for that and thank you for teaching me a lot. One of things that has made me what I am, is reading your publication.

But with your article judging Bombay(Mumbai) as the rudest city, as shattered my sheer trust and belief in you. I have started doubting your genuine journalistic and humane side in publication. It really sounded like one of the christian fundamentalist statement. A statement that comes from a radical like Pat Robertson or Bill O'Reily.

What do you know about Mumbai? Have you ever lived in the city? Is just a silly sample test of random shop to see that if they match 'YOUR' defination of civility?

Mumbai still has lesser crime per 1000 than New York and Sao Paulo or many other cities listed better than Mumbai. Just because crimes like mugging and attempted rapes are no more reported in media of western (read your) world does not mean New York or any other city is better and more civil than Mumbai.

I wish you one of you was caught in carnage of tropical rain that bring the entire city of Mumbai to stand still. Then you would have seen the how rude Mumbaikar is. I am sure you would never ever even imagine to come up with such silly survey in the first place.

I hope all of you would like to maintain the true tradition and reputation of readers digest and may you have strength to give a open declaration and apology to people of Mumbai.

If you won't, well as typical Mumbaikar would do, they will forgive you. At the same time they will also froget you for ever. Coming generation of Mumbai and Inidia, will not know what was Reader's Digest.

I am sure you don't wish to be remembered as “once upon a long time ago” publication. This is in no way a threat or demonstration of arrogance. It is just simply worded honest and cut to chase opinion.

One thing for sure, I will not ever read 'Reader's Digest' ever again. At the same time will not consider the information presented as unbiased or trust worthy. I will always doubt the intention with which it is published.

Thank you for shaking the foundation and faith of a few thousand people who grew with the legend of indomitable 'Reader's Digest'. You just insulted those who respected you.

With pain and despair,

A former reader.

Hope they read this.

Mumbai's spirit shines through- The Times of India

Mumbai's spirit shines through- The Times of India

In 1993, I witnessed the horrible attack on the spirit of Mumbai. Official's say only a few died, western world always played it down to about only 100 odd so dead. A typical Mumbaikar that I am, born and bought up in the greatest city on this planet earth, I kept quiet. I did not feel it necessary to make a hoopla about the the tragic event.

Last year, similar event occurred on a smaller scale in London. The entire world media was focused on misery and tragic events of what happened to innocent people in London. Mumbai was forgotten. Never mentioned.

Then I read this article stating that Mumbai is one of the most arrogant city in the world. This was testing the patience of a Mumbaikar. That Mumbaikar, who has never demanded anything, works hard to keep the city ticking, does not complain and in times of trouble extends all that he can to help those in need. Mumbaikar, whose trust and faith in the city has also made Mumbai one of the safest cities where a woman can by and large walk home safe without the fear of being kidnapped and raped. Mumbaikar and Mumbai, the only people and place that celebrates new year 6 times in 365 days. This city is called arrogant? Fool are those who haven't realised the charm and beauty this city is. Blind are those who did not see that every smiling face of Mumbaikar, never showing the pain of hardship and sacrifice he goed through.

And once again, some ideological fanatic or plain old sick criminal mind, jealous of Mumbai and the darling Mumbaikar, makes a foolish move to threaten the common man of Mumbai! Mumbaikar is that ever illusive super human being. Hero without mask and cape. It take something extra ordinary to be an ordinary Mumbaikar. To kill the spirit of Mumbai and it's resident is purely imagination. No matter what happens, a Mumbaikar, in times of trouble will always rise and go beyond the call of duty to make sure that fellow human being is not suffering. A Mumbaikar will always share a cutting chai and some biscuit after helping people. That cutting chai and biscuit shared in pouring rain, scoarching heat on in middle of tragic disaster like the recent explosion, is the biggest reward for Mumbaikar. As a true Mumbaikar, I don't need any international agency sitting in some developed country living in most modern comforts, to decide if I am arrogant or not. We Mumbaikars are like this and that cannot be changed. To my fellow Mumbaikars, I would rather give highest respect, a salute of 21 guns.

With tear in eyes and pain in heart for those who lost their loved ones and for those who are critical in hospital, I would like to say one thing and only one thing. We Mumbaikars will never ever let anyone scare us or stop us. We have shown the world and will keep showing them, what is unity and humanity.

Salaam to Mumbai and Salaam to Mumbaikar

Why 27 percent OBC Quota? Asks Supreme Court- The Times of India

Why 27 percent OBC Quota? Asks Supreme Court- The Times of India

And once again, the institution that has stood above and beyond the petty political gains, has demonstrated that there is still hope in Indian democracy.

As always Supreme Court of India, truly upholds the constitutional right of an average, non categorized, minor majority, suppressed, hard working, middle class Indian.

The original basis of such reservations were to encourage the under previledged communities to get equal chance to excel on the social/economic ladder. It's 59 years post independence. That's two generations and still if this communities don't wish to change, or want to change, I feel the rest of nation should not suffer for it.

Whatever happened to their pride in being human first? Or do they really want to be treated as invalid citizens who need to be almed?

Honestly I will be last person to have preferences for being from a community or caste. That's an insult to fundamental existence of a human being.

Computer mania at the age of 106!- The Times of India

Well this looks like India has promise in the present as well as future. When the grand mother can take initiative to learn modern skills, shame on those youngsters who lazily sit back and crib about lack of motivation and opportunity. It is never too late.

WTG go Grand Dadima to show some spirit to the new generation.
